22 March – 1 April 2020
Join an international group of artists on a 10-day residency in Gdańsk (Poland), a city torn apart by history and one of the biggest cultural centers in Poland. Under the guidance of American artist Lucas Reiner, participants will be invited to explore the theme of freedom, whose dynamism is best expressed by our ability to choose and engage.
The residency program will alternate times of individual and collective work, workshops (painting, graphic design, photo-video, performance, installation, writing…), cultural visits and meetings with some of the city’s foremost artists.
Lucas Reiner was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1960. He is a painter, engraver and photographer, sharing his time between Los Angeles and Berlin. He has attended the Parsons School of Design and the New School for Social Research in New York, the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and the Parsons School of Design and American College in Paris.
Since 2001, the artist has focused on what he calls the “portrait” of curbside trees in his hometown, exploring the formal collision between organic growth and the constraints of modern urban life.
The “Savchenko Gallery” is a newly opened place on the cultural map of Gdańsk. The gallery was created to promote and develop contemporary art in all its forms. The gallery space is a place where the idea of art is the main factor shaping and creating man for the better. The initiator and creator of this new cultural project is Serhiy Savchenko, visual artist, creator of paintings, graphics, photographs, videos and animations.
The artists’ works will be exhibited in the “Savchenko Gallery” at the end of the Residence.
“tuBAZA” is a cultural centre created in Kolibki Park in Gdynia. It is a place that works at the crossroads of art, architecture, design and technology.
The Centre also aims to integrate Creative Circles, promote art and education.
It will be the main workplace of our “Freedom” residence.
